PATIENT SATISFACTION WITH PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES

PATIENT SATISFACTION WITH PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES

The School of Public Health carried out the “Patient Satisfaction with Primary Health Care Services” field survey in order to find out how delivery of primary health care services is perceived by patients living in two groups of provinces, which have launched and have not launched the Family Medicine (FM) implementation yet, to set out differences between these groups of provinces – if any, and to analyze both satisfaction and dissatisfaction of primary health service users with primary health care services delivered in all provinces across Turkey.

“Patient Satisfaction with Primary Health Care Services” book gave important results and some of them are as follows:

- Patient satisfaction with the most recently visited primary health care facility was found to be 82,8 % in provinces with the FM implementation and 80,1 % in provinces without the FM implementation while the average satisfaction ratio was 81,2 % for all provinces.

- In provinces with the FM implementation, Kırıkkale province – with 98,84 % - had the highest satisfaction ratio and Kayseri province – with 54,62 % - had the lowest satisfaction ratio.

- In provinces without the FM implementation, Afyon province – with 94,16 % - had the highest satisfaction ratio and Batman province – with 48,45 % - had the lowest satisfaction ratio.

At the end of the survey, the School of Public Health published the “Patient Satisfaction with Primary Health Care Services” book – the fourth book of the School of Public Health’s Research Series – in Turkish and English languages.

OUTSOURCING PRACTICES IN THE TURKISH HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

OUTSOURCING PRACTICES IN THE TURKISH HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

The School of Public Health carried out the “Outsourcing Practices in the Turkish Health Care System” research in scope of the national efforts made for evaluating health care services and analyzing policy implementations in health care.

The study aiming to present an economic assessment of Outsourcing (using outside vendors to deliver hospital services), which has become a common practice among at hospitals recently, gave significant results and some of the most outstanding results are as follows:

In 2008, outsourced cleaning services contributed to 32.340.363 TRL cost savings at 244 hospitals,

In 2008 again, outsourced catering services contributed to 38.652.239 TRL cost savings at 131 hospitals.

Besides, thanks to the outsourced medical care services:

-          Magnetic Resonance (MR) cost average 42,8 RTL,

-          Computerized Tomography /CT) cost average 41,2 TRL

However, at hospitals which preferred to purchase medical devices and provide services traditionally instead of outsourcing, the average cost of MR was 81,8 TRL and the average of CT was 65 TRL.

At the end of the research, the School of Public Health published the “Outsourcing Practices in the Turkish Health Sector” book – the first book of the School of Public Health’s Research Series – in Turkish and English languages.
